I am really hoping these don't go the way of the GT cars. Long lists and paying over MSRP for a used model with 41 miles on the odometer.

That depends entirely on how many they build.  A GTS typically is not limited production like a GT2/3/4, so I’m sure you’ll be able to capitalize on depreciation in a few years.  Probably not as much as a 2.5T GTS, but certainly better than a GT4.

True, but Po rsche dealers in the US have a way of messing things up. I hope I am wrong but I won’t be surprised if I’m not.

I thought it said 78 and was like, DAMN, but yeah that’s not terrible. GTS definitely holds its value better than the base and S but luckily not like the GT4. If you care about value, it’s the best in the line. If not get an S and mod it like I did lol I have more power than my generation GTS now, but not the other upgrades. Not sure I want 10mm lower ride height even with the much improved suspension.

Went Guards Red and added:

non-black wheels

Premium Package

leather 18-way seats, which required ventilation

I thought I was hardly optioning but I’m still at ~97k. In line within the Porsche range but were I in those shoes I would definitely take a hard look at an Evora GT.

I came out at 105k, but wait when did it gain so much weight? Even with the new 389hp 4.0 it's power to weight ratio is barely above mine and acceleration is pretty much the same. Is the 4.0 really 200lbs heavier than the 3.4?

Fun Fact: the GT cars aren’t actually limited. They’ve just done a really good job making people think they are. Hence the pricing.

Ended up around 113k. Crazy how fast prices can climb on these configurators. I don’t have the money to spend on one so may as well max a bunch of wild stuff out

Tr ue. While t hey aren’t Limited Edition (911R, Speedster), they do like to play with l imited build slots, so you have the option of waiting for a slot, or buying one off a lot that has $24,000 in extra options that you may or may not want.

I hope they crank them out. Looks like a great car, and will hopefully push  down the 981 values.

I’m not sure how true it is, but I’ve heard something like 50% of 911s sold are GT cars, which is wild if true.

In my budget, I’m hoping this brings the 981 GTS and GT4 prices down to sane levels.

1000% this. I got into a little sp at with a dealer when the GT4's first came out. But there's nothing they want to do about it, so it is what it is.

This is very true as well. I played the whole game with a dealer while checking out the 991.2. I wanted a very basic white C2S with the LSD and pretty much nothing else. They kept trying to push ful ly loaded cars. When I made it clear that I wanted to order one , I became a second priority. Eventually they became so unhelpful that I dropped the idea. Glad I did with everything else that has happened in the last year.

T here must be something else, because it should be roughly the same weight. The 9a2 is modular and relatively lightweight. From what I understand, the two should be similar in terms of exterior dimensions and mass.

Tho ugh its surprisingly difficult to find in depth detail about the 9a1 vs 9a2 outside of marketing fluff.

It’s more like %22-25 of 911's produced are GT3's.

Far more than any other 911  model of course. However it’s still not very many cars. Between that and the fact they are easily the most desirable Porsche , you get very high residuals.

Yeah I thought all the upgrades would reduce weight. CF, lighter materials for suspension.. but maybe there's some system that's either intricate and heavy but worth it or safety regs changed again

WANT.

Seriously, this is the car for me. The GT4 (which I really want) is surely too low and harsh for some of the roads around here, so a 9/10s GT4 is perfect.

And hopefully these will actually depreciate at some point.

These will undoubtedly be great, but I can’t stop thinking about a 2.5T GTS with a tune and  PDK. It would be a rocket.

Yes, for sure, with a much easier starting price.

3.5 0-60? Better?

But I need the noise...

Eh, I hopped in a 718 GTS after driving my 997 to the dealer.

I don’t hate the 718's sound. Different, sure. It snorts and pops with PDK. It’s pretty fun. But I was REALLY enjoying the meaty, turbocharged torque band . On paper it had less torque and power than my X51, but I’ve no question it would blow the 997 away in every performance metric.

So, I could forgive the sound. Especially with the huge discount it comes with these days.

I’m sure I could come around eventually on the sound (for the right price).

Still want my first Porsche to be manual w/ a flat six.

Kinja'd!!!0

Oh yeah, no doubt, your first should have the traditional layout.

I’m not saying that it isn’t my preferred layout for a P-car...but you’re essentially getting a %25 discount minimum on a leftover or slightly used GTS these days. For the money, there is just too much performance on the table to ignore there. And after owning an older Porsche, I fully believe in buying the newest one you can afford. If I were to do it again I would have gone for a newer Cayman S at the same price point.

So, 70-80k, I can’t ignore a 2.5T GTS.  If you’re looking in the 100k range, you have a huge number of options...you’ve got 997 GT3's, 718 GTS 4.0, etc.  At that price point, I would honestly be hard pressed not to look at 991.2's.  Get the nicest one you can at your price point.  They still sound great, but they have turbo torque AND still have that flat six! And I would fit better than in a Cayman..

Not promising rear-engine. Likely will be mid. =)

What was the biggest let-down of the older car, for you?

Yeah... my price range will likely be $50k (maybe stretching to 60).

Not sure if a GTS 4.0 will ever come down to where I can get one. Earliest possible acquisition date would be 3 years from now, so they definitely won’t by then.

Such a shame I won’t be able to make a 911 work while my kids are young enough to fit in the back seat...

The full leather interior didn’t age well. PCM is ancient. I was never worried about IMS bearing issues with my M97 because I know better...however potential bore scoring was always at the back of my mind. I had a techart steering wheel, but I didn’t like the design. However, replacing that wheel would have been so expensive because i’d have to get one in Sea Blue leather (this has led to my latest policy on Porsches: No crazy interior colors, and ideally stick with black).

Also, sitting in cars just a few years newer really ruined it for me.  They just felt so much nicer in every way.

Kinja'd!!!0

Ah, that’s a shame.

My M3's definitely showing its age as well, 12 years in. I’m at the point where I really should either spend a lot of money in maintenance (refreshed suspension, preventative rod bearing replacement , clutch at some point) , or sell it and find something else. Definitely a tough call. Hard to put $5-10k in a car unless you know for sure that you’re going to keep it for much, much longer.

Kinja'd!!! Saracen > davesaddiction @ opposite-lock.com

Kinja'd!!!1

Yeah, and beyond not aging well I just feel like the newer cars are a noticeable step up in quality..albeit it more expensive, hence I’d go for a newer Cayman S at the same price.

But not the 2.7 Cayman.  That engine is gutless.

Well, it’s not just the power so much as the torque band. 200lb-ft peak is just not enough!

That’s why I was excited about the switch to the turbo flat fours. Even the 2 liter 718 has a nice meaty midrange...it’s quicker than a 981 GTS!
